  I must first start by saying that until this happened, I had never had a bad meal here. My sons had treated me for my Birthday, the meal up until dessert was of the usual high standard. I ordered my favourite - creme brulee. it arrived as an egg custard, with a badly singed skin - no sign at all, of the all important, beautifully caramelised sugar layer, that adds a smidge of theatre and expectation, as the diner breaks through it. I quietly had a word with the waiter, also pointing out the lack of appropriate topping. He agreed that it it both looked and smelled burnt, and took it to the kitchen, returning to tell me that 'its meant to be like that'. I gently explained exactly how a creme brulee is 'meant to be', unless the recipe had drastically changed since I was a chef (albeit 30 odd years ago). Apparently it was 'the last one'. The dessert debacle was forgivable, being lied to was not. We've not eaten there since.
